Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Salary: $40,000 Annually
Job Description: Laboratory Technician reports directly to the Laboratory Manager and is responsible for performing various established techniques and protocols under the supervision of Laboratory Manager
Duties:
  • Design and conduct shelf life testing, challenge study, isolation and identification of bacteria and yeast/mold, calculation-based nutritional analysis as per clients’ request
  • Prepare quotes as per clients’ request and invoices in a timely manner
  • Communicate with clients
  • Analyze scientific data and draft final reports
  • Ensure proper aseptic handling of samples to avoid contamination and mixing
  • Follow procedures already in place as well as integrating and optimizing new procedures as necessary given the objectives of different projects
  • Follow and maintain laboratory quality assurance and standard operating procedures by developing standard protocols and implementing new techniques and methods
  • Maintain accurate logs (both hard copy and soft copy)
  • Clean, maintain and calibrate all the equipment used in the lab as per the SOPs
  • Maintain adequate inventory of consumables by placing orders for reagents, chemicals, and office supplies in a timely manner
  • Act as the technical and administrative resource person for users of the lab
Qualifications:
  • Minimum BSc in Microbiology, or Food Microbiology; MSc is preferred; Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Minimum two years of experience working in a laboratory is required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to work within a team and independently
  • Working knowledge of WHMIS, biohazard regulations, as well as standard laboratory procedures
  • Experience on PCR, gram staining, Sanger Sequencing and data analysis, pH and water activity measurement
  • Interest in microbiology related research is an asset
  • Excellent at Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is asset
  • Experience working in a Biosafety Level II lab is an asset
  • Working experience in a business environment is an asset

Job Title: Research Technologist
Salary: $45,000 Annually
Job Description: Research Technologist reports directly to the Research Director and is responsible for designing and conducting various experiments to develop proprietary probiotics.
Duties:
  • Isolation, identification, and characterization of lactic acid bacteria from different samples serving as probiotic candidate source
  • Analyze data and draft manuscript for patent application
  • ·Act as the technical resource person for users of the lab and probiotic marketing team
  • Design and conduct contract testing as per clients’ request
  • Data analysis and final report drafting
  • Follow and maintain laboratory quality assurance and standard operating procedures by developing standard protocols and implementing new techniques and methods
  • Maintain accurate logs (both hard copy and soft copy)
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of MSc degree in Microbiology and Immunology; Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Techniques required: PCR, Gram staining, Sanger sequencing, whole genome sequencing, cell line cultivation, gDNA and RNA isolation, RT-qPCR, ELISA, animal trial
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to work within a team and independently
  • Working knowledge of WHMIS, biohazard regulations, as well as standard laboratory procedures
  • Research experience in probiotic development is an asset
  • Interest in microbiology related research is an asset
  • Excellent at Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is asset
  • Experience working in a Biosafety Level II lab is an asset
  • Working experience in a business environment is an asset
